I have worked with a wide variety of clients and their issues in a number of settings. As well as working in Private Practice I have had the opportunity to volunteer for various counselling and support organisations.
Some of the issues I have worked with are; abuse, anxiety, bereavement, depression, relationship
issues, loss, low self-esteem, low confidence, domestic violence, childhood issues and people feeling
stuck in their lives. Prior to qualifying as a Therapeutic Counsellor I worked in a corporate industry,
therefore, I understand the pressures of working in a demanding environment with a diverse range
of people and the issues involved.
Trained in the Relational Approach, I consider the key to a successful outcome in therapy relies upon
the positive relationship which we grow together in the counselling room. I will help you explore
your current difficulties, as well as past and present relationships, making sense of your thoughts
and feelings at a pace you feel comfortable with. I will support you through this experience in a safe
environment where you can be honest without the fear of being judged. I hope you will feel secure
so that you can talk openly and honestly about anything that is concerning you. As a counsellor I
provide a safe and confidential space for you to be listened to. Together we will develop an
understanding of yourself and others to find a solution that is right for you.
When counselling couples who are experiencing relationship difficulties, I often find the
main issue is a loss of emotional connection where one, if not both, no longer feels safe in
the relationship. This emotional indifference may be linked to various experiences during
their relationship or pain from earlier relationships. If a couple are willing to explore a
different way of doing things and change destructive patterns through relationship
counselling I can offer them a better understanding of each other and the opportunity to
experience new behaviour that leads to positive outcomes.
